How to Use Supabase: Free Plan, Pro Pricing and Managed Hosting
A practical guide to adding a database to a website, what Supabase Free includes, how Pro is billed, and when to choose ServicePeak managed hosting.

What Supabase does
Supabase is a hosted backend. It can provide a Postgres database, user authentication, file storage and secure APIs for a website. A simple contact form can send an email without it. Supabase becomes useful when the business needs to keep structured records or let a visitor and staff member interact with the same information.
Common examples are appointment requests, waitlists, enquiry records, member accounts, saved preferences, staff-managed booking statuses and secure file uploads. We only add a database when an inbox or spreadsheet would make the workflow harder to run safely.
How it is added to a website
- Create a Supabase organization and project in an account the client can access.
- Define only the tables the feature needs—for example, enquiries, appointment requests or waitlist entries.
- Set access rules so public visitors can submit the required data but cannot read other people’s records.
- Connect the website through server-side environment variables; never expose a privileged database key in the browser.
- Test a real submission, confirm that the record appears in the dashboard, and check who can access it.
- Record the project owner, recovery contact and database location in the handover notes.
Supabase Free: the $0 plan
Supabase Free is $0/month and is intended for simple websites, hobby projects and early testing. The current allowance includes two active free projects, a 500 MB database per project, 1 GB file storage, 5 GB egress, 50,000 monthly active users and 500,000 Edge Function invocations.
For a light contact form, a small appointment request flow or a low-volume waitlist, those limits can be enough. The practical restriction is inactivity: a Free project is paused after one week without activity. Free also does not include automatic backups. That is why it should not be treated as an unconditional, always-on database for a core business workflow.
Supabase Pro: the paid plan
Supabase Pro is Supabase’s own paid plan, starting at $25/month per organization. The first project is included, and additional projects start at $10/month. The plan includes $10/month in compute credit, 8 GB database disk per project, 100 GB storage, 250 GB egress and daily backups stored for seven days.
The subscription is not necessarily the final bill. Supabase charges for some usage above the included quota—for example extra database disk, egress, storage, active users or compute. Pro includes a spend cap by default, which can help prevent unexpected overage charges. Review the current pricing page before enabling paid usage.
Choosing the right route
Use Free for a small, low-risk feature where an inactive-project pause and no automatic backup are acceptable. Use Supabase Pro when the website needs an active production database, daily backups, more capacity or a clear paid usage path. Check the current Supabase pricing page and billing documentation before deciding.
Prefer us to manage it?
ServicePeak managed hosting is a separate service; it is not a Supabase plan. It starts at $19/month per website. If the agreed scope needs paid platform accounts, we pay those account fees as part of the ServicePeak hosting service. If usage becomes high or the site adds new paid services, we explain the change and obtain approval before any cost changes.
