Vercel Hobby vs Pro for Business Websites
A practical guide to deploying a website on Vercel, what its free Hobby plan allows, what Pro costs, and when to choose ServicePeak managed hosting.

What Vercel does
Vercel is the platform that builds and publishes a website from its code repository. For a typical Next.js site, a change is pushed to GitHub, Vercel builds it, creates a preview link for review, and publishes the approved version to the live domain. HTTPS, the delivery network and deployment history are handled in the Vercel dashboard.
How to put a website on Vercel
- Put the website code in a GitHub repository owned by the client.
- Create a Vercel account or team, then import that repository as a new project.
- Check the framework settings and add any required environment variables, such as a form-email key.
- Let Vercel create a preview deployment. Test the site before it is public.
- Connect the client’s domain and update the DNS records Vercel provides.
- After launch, each approved GitHub change can create a new deployment; use the Vercel dashboard to review usage and deployment logs.
The client should keep access to the GitHub repository, Vercel account, domain and recovery email. That makes a future handover possible.
Vercel Hobby: the free plan
Vercel’s Hobby plan is $0/month. It is intended for individual developers, personal projects and small-scale applications. It includes deployments from Git, preview deployments, custom domains, HTTPS and a monthly included allowance for platform resources.
The important restriction is use, not just traffic: Vercel states that Hobby is for personal, non-commercial use only. It is useful for a personal portfolio, learning project, prototype or private test site. It should not be selected simply because a client website has low traffic.
Hobby has fixed included limits. For example, the current plan includes 1,000,000 function invocations and 50,000 web-analytics events per month. It does not have a paid overage cycle; if a Hobby limit is exceeded, the affected feature usually cannot be used again until the relevant limit resets. Limits and included amounts can change, so review Vercel’s official plan page before launch.
Vercel Pro: the paid plan
Vercel Pro is Vercel’s own paid plan. Its current base price is $20/month for one deploying team member, and it includes $20 of monthly usage credit. Additional developer seats are $20 per user per month; viewer seats are free. Taxes are extra where applicable.
Pro is designed for commercial use and adds team collaboration, more included resources, spend controls and the option to continue with usage-based charges after the included credit is used. It is a platform bill from Vercel, so the final monthly amount can be higher than $20 if the project uses more than its included credit or adds paid services.
Choosing the right route
Use Hobby for a genuinely personal, non-commercial project. Use Vercel Pro when the client or its team wants to own and manage a commercial Vercel account directly. Before choosing either plan, check the current Vercel Hobby documentation, Vercel Pro documentation and fair-use guidelines.
Prefer us to manage it?
ServicePeak managed hosting is a separate service; it is not a Vercel plan. It starts at $19/month per website. If the agreed scope needs paid platform accounts, we pay those account fees as part of the ServicePeak hosting service. If usage becomes high or the site adds new paid services, we explain the change and obtain approval before any cost changes.
